The Ministry of Health announces that today, 13 January 2022:
- 3 people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 672.
- 259 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 87 are in serious condition. A proportion of 74.91% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an intensive care unit.
- A total of 122,016 tests have been performed to detect the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 3,103 (positivity rate: 2.54%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by the molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 218,374.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 3 persons who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 were:
Male, aged 86 years, who died on 13 January at Limassol General Hospital.
Male, aged 89 years, who died on 13 January at Larnaca General Hospital.
A man, aged 86, who died on 12 January at Famagusta General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with COVID-19 as the final cause of death is 672, of which:
- 422 males (62.8%), and
- 250 females (37.2%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 76 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 259 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 87 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 87 patients in serious condition, 29 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator, and 54 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

Γ. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 122,016 diagnoses performed, 6,671 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 115,345 by the antigen rapid test method, 3103 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 51 cases from 2,495 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 426 cases out of 3,754 samples taken through private initiative.
- 15 cases out of 422 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 1,655 cases out of 56,424 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 956 cases out of 58,921 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
