22-year-old man "picked up" a church bench in Paphos Under three-day detention
A 22-year-old man was placed under three-day detention for a case of illegal possession of property, to facilitate the investigations of the Paphos CID.
According to Pafos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, following a tip-off, members of the Polis Chrysochous Police Station conducted a search on Sunday with the written consent of the 22-year-old driver of a vehicle parked in a rural area in the village of Lysos, Pafos District.
During the search, a metal church bench was found in the luggage compartment of the car, inside which there were various coins.
As it was found, this bench was broken into in the coin entry area. The 22-year-old was arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of property.
The young man allegedly did not cooperate with the police, not mentioning where he found the bench and was taken to Polis Chrysochous police station, where he was arrested.
The 22-year-old was taken to the Paphos District Court yesterday, which issued a three-day detention order against him. Efforts are being made to locate the church from which the bench was stolen.
Investigations into the case are continuing at the P. Chrysochous police station.
