200 medical and nursing staff out of hospitals due to coronavirus The OKYPY staffs the departments with transfers, says Harilaou "Mostly from intra-family transmission of cases and not from hospitals"
Around 200 people from the medical and nursing staff of all hospitals of the OCYPY around the country, are out of action due to covid according to the Organization's Press Spokesman, Haralambos Harilaou.
As in the rest of the community, outbreaks are also occurring among staff, according to Mr.Harialou, which is a logical and natural consequence of the thousands of cases detected every day.
"Around 200 people are absent because of covid, either because they are cases, because they are in quarantine and are contacts, or because they are absent to look after their minor children who are sick with covid," he said.
Some problems that do occur, as he explained to the Cyprus Times[/B], are assessed by the OCYPY on a daily basis, which monitors and takes appropriate action.
"Where and when necessary we are moving staff and we don't have any operational problems at the moment. It is stressed that as we are finding that most positive cases do not arise from the Nursing Homes, but mainly from intra-family referrals as well as staff have social and personal lives," he said.
At the same time, asked about the measures observed within the nursing homes and whether he felt these needed improvement, he noted that there are clear instructions for staff to observe all measures and stressed that staff who staff the covid units do not under any circumstances have contact with other staff in order to avoid transmissions.
"According to the data we have at the moment, fortunately there are no clusters among staff in hospitals," he stressed.
Asked to respond to some past cries from organizations about understaffing of departments, Mr.Harilaou explained that in December another 60 nurses were recruited who are staffing departments and are being moved there and where the problem arises accordingly.
