They roused the audience and offered a special evening with a deeper meaning

What happened on Wednesday night 3/8 at Home for Cooperation, in the buffer zone of Nicosia, in the framework of the 1st bi-communal music festival "Bi-comMusic Festival", will remain deeply engraved in the minds and souls of both the musicians from both sides of the divided island who participated and the hundreds of listeners who attended the diverse concert.

The opening act was the duo of Giorgos Kalogirou and Cavit Dereli. With their only flags a jura, a guitar, a voice and songs with a strong social imprint, they opened the curtain in the most symbolic way: a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meeting for the first time on stage, played as if they had been working together for years.

The second also mixed duet of the Limassol-based clarinetist Elina Georgiou, who lives in the USA and is one of the masterminds of the festival idea, and the violinist Ahmet Akarsu, originally from Paphos, heightened the excitement of the musical encounter of musicians from both communities. In one of the pieces they played, they were supported by drummer Hugo Enrique Olivos.

The rest of the evening held one of the most characteristic moments of the evening. The singers Frederiki Tombazou and Niyal Ozturk, accompanied by the excellent musicians of the Let's Sing Together Band,[/B] and performing songs that have been sung in both Greek and Turkish, roused[/B] the audience and united them in a great circular dance!

The evening continued dynamically with the "Idaion Project". Stories from Cyprus, Crete and the wider neighbourhood, intertwined with layered original musical compositions from the band's first album and tied with a powerful progressive sound, were passionately offered to the audience by Vangelis Gettos (lute, voice), Hugo Enrique Olivos (drums) and Alexis Giangoullis (bass).

The highlight of the evening came with its closing. All the musicians who performed during the festival improvised together on stage, in a way that completed this great celebration in the most magical way. Organizers, participants and audience renewed their appointment for next year.

The festival was funded by the Davis Projects for Peace fund, organized by the Bi-ComMusic project and RESET and supported by the Cyprus Youth Council, the House of Cooperation, Youth of Ecologists and CSI.
