A further 17,269 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant have been announced by authorities in the UK.
The total number of cases now identified is 177,201. Around 1/4 of these have been identified in London.
The total number of suspected cases detected in the country is 390,936.
By 261, or 668, hospitalised Omicron carriers have increased compared to the previous count. It is not specified, however, how many of these were hospitalized due to coronavirus symptoms and how many were diagnosed positive after being admitted for another reason.
