Countries call for significant improvements to Commission proposal Extraordinary Energy Council on 13 December

The Czech EU Presidency is heading for another extraordinary Energy Council on 13 December to adopt the three energy regulations, including the gas price cap, according to European sources.

The Czech Presidency was briefed on the outcome of the coordination meeting of the 15 EU member states, in which Greece participated, shortly before the start of the Energy Council this morning. The 15 EU member states are calling for significant improvements to the Commission's proposal on the gas price cap and the simultaneous adoption of all three energy regulations (the solidarity mechanism regulation, the regulation on accelerated authorisation of renewable energy sources and the cap regulation) at an extraordinary Council on 13 December. The Czech Presidency accepted the proposal of the "15" and proposed exactly what they asked for, according to European sources.

However, according to the same sources, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland and Luxembourg expressed their opposition and want the first two regulations, on which there is already agreement in principle, to be adopted today.

For its part, Germany said it accepted the Presidency's proposal for an extraordinary Energy Council on 13 December and simultaneous adoption of the three regulations, provided that the safeguards adopted by the European Council are respected. According to European sources, Germany has committed, in view of the new extraordinary Energy Council, to negotiate in good faith on the gas price cap
