[Cyprus Times] 145 driver complaints in 12 hours in Larnaca

Police in Larnaca received 145 complaints from drivers for various traffic violations, as part of the prevention of serious and fatal traffic collisions

A total of 145 complaints for various traffic offences resulted from roadside checks carried out by members of the Road Accident Prevention Units (O.P.O.D.) Headquarters and Avdimou and members of the Special Motorcycle Squad (E.O.O.M.O.), on motorways, in the city and on the secondary road network of Larnaca district.

The traffic checks were carried out between the hours of 6am - 6pm yesterday, as part of the prevention of road collisions.

The majority of the complaints made concerned offences which have been proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road traffic collisions. Of these, 74 complaints stand out, which were carried out for exceeding the speed limit, as well as 17 complaints for not wearing a seat belt and using a mobile phone while driving.

Also worth mentioning are 32 complaints made concerning vehicles that did not have a licence and certificate of fitness.

Targeted checks by the traffic police continue daily, throughout the 24-hour period, throughout the road network nationwide, with the sole aim of instilling good road awareness among all road users and preventing fatal and serious traffic collisions.
