Today in 2001 the Euro replaces the Drachma and the national currencies of 11 other EU member states

Fourteen years have passed since Greece left its national currency and officially entered the eurozone.

For more than a decade, much has been written about whether it ultimately worked out for good or ill, and there are many who still want to return to the drachma today.
