Investigations are continuing on Monday to locate a migrant who reportedly fell into the sea and tried to swim to land.
The incident occurred when the three boats with irregular migrants arrived within 2 nautical miles of the coast between Cabo Greco and Ayia Napa.
One of the three boats had an engine problem, causing it to stop. According to other migrants testimonies, the missing migrant dived into the sea and has been missing ever since.
Air craft and seaborne vessels from the search and rescue coordination centre are taking part in the operation.
On Monday evening aircraft stopped flights due as darkness fell, while water vehicles continued to search the area.
Officers from the Famagusta police carried out foot patrols which, however, yielded no result.
The investigations will continue overnight with the situation to be reassessed on Tuesday morning following the completion of statements secured from the rescued immigrants.
The coast guard, navy, and air force, as well as the Famagusta police are participating in the operation.
