The six-member Holy Synod court is to begin proceedings on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Bishop Nektarios of Kition.
As ecclesiastical sources had reported to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Monday, the six-member court will convene behind closed doors in the morning.
The ecclesiastical authorities had decided on Friday that two monks involved in an alleged sex and cash scandal at Osios Avakum monastery will have to appear before the court to answer charges brought against them.
The court is comprised of Kiti Bishop Nektarios, Vasilios of Konstantia, Athanasios of Limassol, Christophoros of Karpasia (who replaced Isaias of Tamasos and Orini, who brought the charges), Nikolaos of Amathus, and Pagratios of Arsinoes, who replaced Neophytos of Morphou. Bishop Neophytos withdrew from the proceedings as he was on good terms with the monks.
According to a statement by the church authorities, the goal is to complete the entire process before the start of Orthodox Easter Holy Week.
It is expected that all involved in the case under investigation, including clergy, monks and lay people, will be called to testify.
