The Government's disagreement with the increases that the Limassol port management companies intend to impose on their tariffs was expressed by Transport Minister Yannis Karousos, noting that efforts are being made to ensure that these costs are not passed on to the consumer.

In statements in Limassol and asked to comment on the issue that has arisen, Yannis Karousos said that "we do not agree with this increase in charges", however he indicated that "in the contract there is this clause and the companies can make these increases without being able to do anything except (exert) political pressure".

The government, he continued, will discuss with all parties involved and will decide in the coming days, any ways that this increase "will be absorbed, to the extent possible, by us and not by the consumer".
