Shopkeepers, city councils and a religious group in Turkey protested on Tuesday over rising energy bills, while doctors staged a one-day walkout over their working conditions as a wave of discontent fuelled by inflation spread across the country.
Inflation soared close to 50% in January, raising the cost of living for Turks already struggling to make ends meet after the December 2021 crash in the Turkish lira exchange rate triggered by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's unorthodox low interest rate policy.
The Turkish government raised the minimum wage by 50% this year due to the unrest.
