Annual inflation in Turkey in January reached its highest level since April 2002, according to official data released on Thursday, after the exchange rate crushed the purchasing power of the country's citizens.
As reported by the French News Agency, prices of consumer goods rose sharply, higher than expected, by 48.7 percent over the same period in January last year, up from 36.1 percent in December, according to Turkey's Statistical Service.
The figures were released days after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan changed the head of the Statistical Office for the fourth time since 2019.
