Turkey has a huge responsibility for the long pending resolution of the humanitarian problem of the missing persons, said Commissioner for the Presidency Fotis Fotiou, speaking at an event organized by students of Kykkos High School A on the occasion of the World Declaration of Human Rights Day on the topic "Missing Persons: The most tragic aspect of the 1974 Turkish invasion".
He said that despite the efforts through the Committee of Inquiry on Missing Persons, which operates under the supervision of the United Nations, despite also the official complaints and all our international intercessions and actions for the final resolution of this humanitarian problem, so that the souls of those who perished and those of their relatives who fatefully complete their own life cycle may rest in peace, 781 of the 1619 Greek Cypriots and Greeks, whose names have been included in the list, are still missing.
