The debate in the Parliamentary Trade Committee is expected to continue soon with proposals on the issue of increasing bank charges. Specifically, the parties are expected to submit proposals for a law concerning the payment account with basic features to expand the services offered on this account so that small and medium-sized businesses can also use it.
During his presence at the Committee today, the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC), Constantinos Herodotou, reiterated that the CBC has acted within the framework allowed by law on the issue of bank charges and has conducted a study since 2019 to determine reasonable fees for the payment account with basic features.
