Works are progressing on the construction of a total of 16 breakwaters in the communities of Pervolia and Oroklini in Larnaca district, whose coasts are constantly losing ground to erosion, with the two fronts having lost dozens of metres of their beach in recent years.
The erosion problem affects almost the entire coastline of Larnaca Province, starting from Zygi and extending to Pyla, with the communities of Pervolia and Oroklini facing the greatest pressure.
As Pervolia Community Mayor Costas Tiggis told CNA, "since last November, works have started on the construction of nine breakwaters in the area of Pervolia Bay, which is bounded to the west by Cape Petounta and to the east by Cape Kiti.
