The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation's online lecture series continues with the lecture-episode of Dr Eleni Leontidou entitled "The history of health and safety in Cyprus: industrialisation under the shadow of colonialism", which will be presented from Friday, 14 January 2022.

According to an announcement by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, the theme of the lecture is the history of the Cypriot mines, which is a tragic chapter in the history of occupational health and safety on the island.

A significant number of Cypriot workers in mines and quarries contracted serious respiratory diseases which were not widely known in Cyprus until much later in the late 19th century when Cyprus was resource-poor from centuries of harsh taxation under Ottoman rule.
