[CNA] Small annual rise in government employment in December 2021

Employment in the Government increased by 0.7% or by 359 persons on an annual basis, due to an increase in temporary staff.

According to data released today by the Statistical Office, total government employment in December 2021 amounted to 53,054 people.

In the permanent staff there was a decrease of 655 persons (-2.4%), from 26,881 to 26,226 persons. In the temporary staff there is an increase of 1,088 persons (6.2%) reaching 18,644 compared to 17,556 persons in December 2020.

Compared to December 2020 there is an increase in the staff of the Educational Service (2.0%) and the staff of the Security Forces (1.2%) while the staff of the Public Service remained stable. In permanent staff there is a decrease in all three categories, with the largest decrease occurring in Public Service
