The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus, on the occasion of the recent earthquakes that were felt in our region, points out the necessity of institutionalizing regular checks of the structural and seismic adequacy of structures, with their simultaneous upgrading, where necessary.
As stated in an announcement of the Department, our country is located in an earthquake-prone area, where relatively strong seismic excitations are expected, which can affect structures and cause significant damage and human losses.
"It would be preferable if proactive incentives were given by the State to carry out regular relevant inspections and take, where necessary, appropriate measures to avoid adverse consequences and disasters in the event of a strong earthquake," it adds.
