A record number of coronavirus cases have been detected in the Premier League since May 2020, when new infections began to be announced. As announced in this regard, by the English league's governing body, "between Monday 6 December and Sunday 12 December, 3,805 checks were carried out on players and staff. Among these, 42 new tests came back positive'.
In the previous week of checks, just 12 cases of coronavirus had been detected, but since then cases of Covid-19 have emerged at several top clubs, including Manchester United.
League organisers, have already called on clubs to reinstate restrictive measures such as mask wearing and social distancing, as Great Britain has recently introduced new restrictions.
