The Crime Investigation Department in Paphos is investigating a case of fraud involving a 73-year-old woman. At the same time, the Police urges citizens to be careful to avoid such scams.
According to a statement by the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, the case was reported to the Police, today at noon, by the 73-year-old woman. According to the complainant, around 9.30am today, while she was at her home in Paphos, she received a phone call from an unknown man, who introduced himself as a hospital director. The unknown man told her that a relative had been injured in a road traffic collision and that there was an urgent need for her to undergo surgery. For this purpose, ostensibly to cover some medical expenses, the stranger told the 73-year-old that an immediate payment of €38,000 was needed.
