[CNA] Pandemic cost European football seven billion euros

The coronavirus pandemic has cost European football €7 billion in two seasons, UEFA said in a report published today (03/02) highlighting the sharp drop in the transfer market for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 financial years.

According to UEFA, European clubs faced a €4 billion deficit in 2019-2020 and €3 billion in the following financial year, after twenty years of uninterrupted growth.

In this regard, ticket revenue fell sharply due to empty stadiums (with €4.4 billion in lost revenue), reduced commercial and sponsorship activities (projected decrease of €1.7 billion) and TV rights (€0.9 billion).

These results are very close to the forecasts made by UEFA in May 2021, which predicted a revenue decrease of 7,2 billion euros for
