Novak Djokovic has already started training and is - at least for now - ready to defend his Australian Open title after Judge Anthony Kelly of the Federal District Court in Melbourne overturned the cancellation of his visa. [AFTER A RATHER CONFUSING DAY-LONG HEARING INVOLVING DENSE LEGAL ARGUMENTS, DJOKOVIC WAS ORDERED TO BE RELEASED FROM IMMIGRATION DETENTION ON PROCEDURAL GROUNDS, WITH THE JUDGE SAYING HE HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN ENOUGH TIME TO CHALLENGE THE ORIGINAL CANCELLATION OF HIS VISA.
However, the larger question of whether the Serbian champion was entitled to rely on a medical exemption from the Australian Tennis Federation (Tennis Australia) to enter the country and compete in the tournament without having been vaccinated against Covid-19 was not resolved.
