[CNA] Multiple chronic conditions in middle age increase risk of dementia, research suggests

Comorbidity - the presence of two or more chronic health problems, such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease and depression in middle age - is associated with an increased risk of dementia later in life, a major new European scientific study has concluded.

The later risk is greater when the chronic conditions had occurred at a younger age (between 50 and 55 years). The researchers, led by Professor Arsana Singh-Manu of the University of Paris and the French medical institute Inserm, who published the paper in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), analysed data on about 10.
