[CNA] It will take action on increases in bank charges under its powers, says CBC

The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) will study the issue of increases in Cypriot banks' charges, which has been reported in the press, and assures that it "will take any appropriate action within the framework of its powers".

At the same time, the CBC stresses in a statement that through the package of measures recommended to the Ministry of Finance, it has enabled an (average) consumer to carry out all the banking operations he/she needs on a daily basis by paying a maximum amount of €36 per calendar year and invites consumers who wish to be protected by the reasonable fees can apply to open a Payment Account with Basic Features or apply to convert existing current and/or savings accounts to Basic Features.
