Inflation in Britain soared to its highest level in more than 10 years on broad-based price rises, according to data released on Wednesday on the eve of the Bank of England's (central) decision on the level of interest rates.

The annual rate of inflation jumped to 5.1% in November, after rising 4.2% in October, according to a statement from Britain's Office for National Statistics (ONS).

This is the highest level since September 2011, with inflationary pressures partly due to a jump in fuel costs.
