The plenary session of the House of Representatives meets today at 11.00 to take a position on the referral of the law for a reduced VAT rate of 9% for the supply of electricity.
One hour earlier at 10.00 the Parliamentary Finance Committee will hold an extraordinary meeting to examine the reasons for the referral. Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides and Attorney General George Savides have been invited to attend the session.
The referred law was passed by the Plenum of the Parliament on 3 December and was referred to the Parliament by the President of the Republic on 22 December.
In the reasons for the referral, the President states that the law referred to him violates EU law and also the Principle of the Separation of Powers.
He adds the reasons for the referral are economic and budgetary, since it is considered that the vote
