[CNA] Implementation of MEAs to create conditions for resumption of dialogue on Cyprus, says President Anastasiades

The package of confidence-building measures (CBMs) that he himself proposed to the UN Secretary General and the European Council was put forward by President Nicos Anastasiades as the solution to restore the climate of mistrust and create a climate for the resumption of talks, stressing that Turkish claims for recognition of sovereign equality of the occupied territories do not create conditions for the resumption of dialogue on the Cyprus problem.

In a speech at the 38th Annual General Assembly of the Union of Municipalities, the President wished for conditions for reunification, noting that the burden of the occupation "no longer concerns not only the Greek Cypriots but also the Turkish Cypriots", in an indirect reference to the impact on the occupied territories of the continued slide in the exchange rate of the Turkish lira.
