28 samples with the Omicron mutation have been identified in Cyprus, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday.
Specifically, it said in a statement that in the framework of the strict control carried out in the Republic of Cyprus in the light of the new Omicron mutation, following the sequencing of positive case samples from the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the NIPD laboratory and after a thorough analysis of the data from the Molecular Virology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus, 28 new cases with the Omicron variant have been identified.
Eight positive cases were identified as Omicron by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and relate to primary and secondary contacts of the first 5 Omicron cases identified last week and associated with a travel history.
