A pioneering and rare surgery - a milestone for the Greek and Cypriot data, was performed by the neurosurgeon Dr. Kyriakos Paraskevas and his team at the American Medical Center.
It was a 30-hour operation, perhaps one of the most difficult ever recorded, due to the fact that it consisted of multiple stages, such as neurosurgical decompression of the spinal cord, obtaining a vascularized graft, and transplantation of the graft, anastomosis of the graft (transplant fulfillment), longitudinal spinal fusion, en bloc vertebral column resection, protection of aortic branches and curvature reduction by special manipulation.
