The fire at the Vasilikos cement factory is manageable and adjacent buildings are no longer at risk, says Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis in a post on Twitter.

"There will continue to be dense black smoke until full extinguishment," Kettis notes, adding that "the causes will be investigated after full extinguishment."

Earlier, he had said that "due to the fire that broke out around 9:40 am, polyurethane powder packed in bags and outdoors inside a storage area is burning," adding that the Fire Service has informed all relevant State agencies.

Kettis also noted that the firefighting teams were reinforced with a foam vehicle from Larnaca province.
