The rush by several countries to lift restrictions against coronavirus, if not declare an end to the pandemic, on the grounds that it is now time to live with COVID-19, has led some more cautious scientists to warn that this is probably an "endemic delusion" and that such excessive relaxation is premature.
As COVID-19 outbreaks, following the surprise mass wave of the Omicron variant, trend downward in Europe and North America, where there is excess fatigue among citizens after two years of pandemic, experts and non-specialists alike are eager to "get rid" of the coronavirus. Thus, assurances are growing that 'we can now live with the disease' and consider coronavirus endemic, i.e. a stable and predictable 'entity' among other pathogens.
