With the central message "everyone must act", the Cyprus Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists joins the World Obesity Federation in raising public awareness about the epidemic proportions that obesity has reached today, as stated in an announcement of the Association on the occasion of the World Obesity Day on March 4.
According to an epidemiological survey by the Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists, obesity in Cyprus amounts to 27.8% (28.8% in men and 26.9% in women), while the International Health Organization's European Childhood Obesity Monitoring Initiative (2018) survey of 40 countries recorded the highest rates of obesity in Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Greece, Malta, San Marino and Spain, where 18-21% of boys and 9-19% of girls are obese.
