[CNA] Eight dead and 50 injured outside the football stadium in Cameroon

At least eight people died yesterday and nearly 50 were injured when fans stormed the stadium hosting the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 match between Cameroon and the Comoros Islands in the Cameroonian capital Yaoundé, the government said.

"Faced with this tragedy, the gravity of which has caused shock and amazement, the Head of State (Paul Biya) sends his saddest condolences to the families who have been seriously affected, as well as his wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured, to whom he sends the deepest sympathy of the entire nation," the statement reads.

The dead were taken to the Yaoundé Emergency Center, while the injured were divided into four health facilities in Yaoundé.
