The importance of protecting the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises was underlined by the Director General of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, Marios Panagidis, at the EU Competitiveness Council, which took place on Thursday in Brussels.

As reported by the DGT, during the proceedings, an orientation debate was held on the Proposal for a Regulation on foreign subsidies distorting the internal market, which examines the potential distortive effects of foreign subsidies in the single market, undermining the level playing field.

The GMP adds that a common finding of the '27' was the presence of a regulatory gap in the field of foreign subsidies, while a number of Member States, including Cyprus, highlighted in particular the need to safeguard the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises.
