[CNA] 63 more cases of Omicron variant detected in Cyprus

A total of 63 new cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in Cyprus, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday.

In the context of the strict control carried out in the Republic of Cyprus in light of the new Omicron mutation, the Ministry of Health informs that after sequencing 192 samples of positive cases with collection dates from 11 December 2021 to 19 December 2021, conducted in collaboration between the Ministry of Health and NIPD and following data analysis by the Laboratory of Molecular Virology of the University of Cyprus, 59 positive samples with the Omicron variant were identified.

In addition, 4 more samples with airport sequencing were confirmed as Omicron by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.
