[C] Nikos Tornaritis addressed a question to the President of the European Committee of Social Rights of the Council of Europe, in the framework of a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Riga

Mr. Tornaritis, head of the Cypriot delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) addressed a question to Ms Aoife Nolan, President of the European Committee of Social Rights (CESR) of the Council of Europe, following her speech at the Assembly's Standing Committee meeting in Riga.

Mr. Tornaritis, noted the passage yesterday by the House of Representatives of a complete ban on all conversion therapies as an important step in the promotion and protection of the human rights of the LGBTI community. She asked the President of the HRC Ms. Aoife Nolan, as the body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the CoE's Human Rights Charter, about the progress made by member states of the organization on this issue.

Ms. Nolan congratulated the House of Representatives on this important amendment to the legislation and stressed the importance of criminalizing, at the international level, those practices that violate the human right to physical and sexual self-determination.
