Deepening of relations, signing of agreements and memorandum during the official visit of King Jordan to Cyprus The agenda of the visit to Cyprus

The official visit of King Abdullah II of Jordan to Cyprus on Friday aims to further deepen relations between Cyprus and Jordan. During the visit, two agreements and a memorandum will be signed between the two countries.

The agreements to be signed concern the avoidance of double taxation and the extradition of fugitives. A memorandum will also be signed between the Foreign Ministries of Cyprus and Jordan for cooperation between the two countries. The agreements and the memorandum will be signed on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus by the Ministers of Finance Constantinos Petrides, Justice and Public Order Stefi Drakou and Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides.

President Anastasiades and King Abdullah II are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen relations between Cyprus and Jordan. The agenda also includes the prospects for further deepening relations between the two countries in the areas of trade and tourism. During King Abdullah II's visit to Cyprus, the prospects for further deepening relations between the two countries in the fields of trade and tourism are also expected to be discussed.

During the visit, the President of the Republic will present the King of Jordan with the Grand Medal of the Order of Macarius III and King Abdullah II will present the President with his country's highest honorary distinction. The official reception of King Abdullah II at the Presidential Palace will take place tomorrow afternoon. During their meeting, President Anastasiades will report on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, with particular reference to Turkey's provocative actions on land and at sea.

They will also discuss, among other things, bilateral relations, actions to address the effects of climate change and the President's initiative for the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region, efforts to address the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and regional developments. In the evening, the President of the Republic will host a banquet in honour of King Abdullah II.

King Abdullah II also has family ties with Cyprus. His great-grandmother, who lived in Cyprus during the British rule, is buried in the Hala Sultan Mosque in Larnaca. It was between 1926 and 1931 when his great-grandfather's family lived in Cyprus.
