Over half of people have negatively evaluated the government under President Nikos Christodoulides just three months after taking on the role, a survey showed.
A poll conducted by Retailzoom online with 3,415 participants, showed that 55 per cent of respondents were unhappy with Christodoulides a mere three months after taking on the role of President on February 28, when he was officially sworn in.
Another 41 per cent of respondents said that Christodoulides’ government brings no different than previous governments, while 71 per cent believe that the cabinet, he has appointed is moderate leaning towards inadequate.
According to the survey, conducted for daily Politis, Christodoulides, who had won elections with 52 per cent of the vote in the second round, has now reached a negative approval rating, with 55 per cent saying they would negatively evaluate his first three months as president.
Just over a quarter positively evaluated his first three months at 26 per cent, while another 19 per cent were still unsure.
The results of the study showed that women were a little more divided on Christodoulides, with 32 per cent give him positive feedback and 47 per cent saying they evaluated his government negatively.
Men on the other hand were responded with an almost two thirds (63 per cent) negative evaluation of Christodoulides.
Meanwhile, people also said that Christodoulides’ government is no different than previous governments in Cyprus, with 41 per cent of respondents saying it is “one and the same.”
Another 30 per cent said that the government was different leaning towards worse than previous regimes, while 26 per cent said that it was different and slightly better.
Respondents in Paphos believed the government was better (38 per cent), while in both Nicosia (43 per cent) and Larnaca (45 per cent) Christodoulides’ government is considered worse than previous ones.
Based on the numbers, most people also think that Christodoulides’ cabinet appointments fail to meet the benchmark.
Just over a quarter of respondents (29 per cent) said Christodoulides’ cabinet is very good (13 per cent) or good (16 per cent), while 32 per cent considered it average, and the majority (39 per cent) considered it inadequate (26 per cent) to unsuitable (13 per cent).
