Cyprus’ foreign ministry on Saturday expressed its condolences for the victims in India’s train crash, described as the worst of the century.

“Profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life following the train crash in India. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” the ministry tweeted.

“At this difficult time, our thoughts are with the wounded, the rescue teams and the government and people of India.”

Over 250 people died after the collision involving three trains, with more than 1,000 people injured.

Under circumstances that were being investigated, one passenger train on Friday derailed on the adjacent track and was struck by an incoming train. It also hit a nearby stationary freight train.
