Students from the University of Pittsburgh had the opportunity to tour the facilities of Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol Ltd during a visit to Cyprus this week.

According to a statement from the managing company of the container terminal at Limassol Port, first-year students from the Schools of Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering visited the container terminal and had the opportunity to closely observe the operation and activities of a modern terminal that handles 90 per cent of the countrys imports and exports.

Subsequently, during a presentation by the managing company, the students had the opportunity to ask questions about the operation of the terminal and its management.

Moreover, the students were given symbolic gifts with an emphasis on environmental protection.

In a statement, the Director of Operations at Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol Ltd, Captain George Pouros, expressed satisfaction with the continuous interest shown by renowned academic institutions from abroad regarding the management and operation of the container terminal at Limassol Port.

“This highlights the significant position the port holds in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region,” he said.

He also highlighted the readiness of the managing company to further strengthen its connection with academic institutions both in Cyprus and abroad.

Through this initiative, students get closer and familiarise themselves with the services provided and the maritime profession in general, which in turn enhances their interest and prospects for engagement in these specific fields,” he said.

“After all, it is through such collaborations that the timeless goal of attracting talented, highly trained personnel is achieved,” he added.

It should be noted that Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol Ltd is the managing company of the container terminal in the Port of Limassol, employing 200 people in Cyprus.

Additionally, the Eurogate Group is the largest independent container terminal operator in Europe, handling approximately 12 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in nine terminals in Germany, Italy, Morocco, Russia, and Cyprus. The group employs over 8,000 people in total.
